Chief Trainer, Pieter Mathews
Piet Mathews is the product of three generations of equestrians. His father and uncle received training from the riders of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna; and his uncle was selected to be on the Austrian Olympic jumping team). His grandfather and great grandfather were in the Austrian Cavalry.
His father Michael Mathews was one of the founding members of the United States Dressage Federation (USDF); and he became a well-known dressage judge and clinician.
Piet grew up immersed in the horse business and equestrian sport; and was exposed to the teachings of many of the industry’s foremost authoritie. He competed successfully in eventing, dressage, hunters, equitation and open jumpers and has many victories to his credit. He has coached students of all ages in competitive events throughout the United States.
He has trained students of all levels, ages and physical and emotional capabilities in the art, science and sport of horsemanship at Koko Crater Stables for over 10 years.
